Introduction:

Teaming up two of the baddest fighters in one game turned out to be a good idea. The game is quite fun, and can hilarious at times. The Dark Queen has joined forces with the Shadow Boss, and they’re about to tear apart the world. Good thing the Battletoads joined forces with Billy and Jimmy.

Graphics [8/10]:

The graphics are exceptional. On the first level enemies fly in on rockets while the spaceship is moving. Abobo makes a nice entrance by smashing through the door. All of the backgrounds are very colorful. There are flamethrowers, rockets, dynamite, and other cool effects throughout the levels. All of the characters look nice. They look even better than the previous games. Rare put in the humorous effects like a giant fist or foot. When you beat an enemy, they generally fly off or into the screen.

Music and Sound [9/10]:

This game does really well in the sound department. The music is excellent, and the sounds are comical. Every time someone gets hit, it sounds like a cartoon. This adds to the humor of the game. There are never sound problems, or mixing from too many enemies on screen.

Game Play [9/10]:

It’s just like the other Battletoads games, but better. You can select from five players: Rash, Zitz, Pimple, Billy, and Jimmy. Billy and Jimmy are the same but different from the toads. There is a punch and jump button only, but a lot of moves. The attacks change on different levels, and they don’t always use the same moves. There are plenty of obstacles to mix with the enemies. The two player game is the way it was meant to be played. It would have been nice to have a three player mode though.

Challenge and Replay [9/10]:

As long as there is a friend over, you’ll want to play it. The game is very hard, and is difficult to beat without a code or game genie. If you play the two player A mode, you’ll never beat it. It allows you to hurt each other.

Conclusion/Overall [9/10]:

The game is great. The two player mode rocks. Battletoads fans will enjoy this one, while Double Dragon fans will be hit with something new and hysterical.
